What is BreathWork?
Breathing is one of the most basic and essential physical body processes. Every single breath is literally the beginning of your life again, because without the next breath, your life would be over! So obviously, you’ve been breathing your entire life, mostly unconsciously and unaware of the power you have in your life just by controlling or altering your breath. Through using the specific type of BreathWork that I teach, you can significantly reduce your stress, anxiety, depression, and more. In fact, BreathWork has been studied and found to be an effective treatment for PTSD.

There are many different types of BreathWork, all originating in India over 5,000 years ago. I teach a style referred to as “conscious connected breathing” or “circular breathing.” And yes, there is work involved with BreathWork. This isn’t a quiet, relaxing activity. You are actively engaged with breathing in this unique way. The technique is simple, yet the results can be profound. It is difficult to describe because everyone has a completely unique experience. Trust that if you let go of any preconceived idea of what should or might happen, you will have an undeniable positive response after just one session.

What to Expect
WHAT TO EXPECT
This style of BreathWork is challenging! You may feel like you’ve been through a physical workout when you finish. You will be breathing to a playlist similar to the one you’d hear in an aerobics class – some very energizing and some relaxing. Everyone experiences BreathWork differently AND you will have a different experience every time you do it. I will guide and motivate you through the active breathing portion, and this is followed by a short mediation to complete the session.

HOW TO PREPARE
Since this is a virtual session, prepare your space up to make the most of your experience. You want to be as comfortable as possible. Your bed is the best place for this practice. Some people like using an eye mask or you can just draw your shades. You will be lying flat on your back with no pillow under your head, so a folded towel is great support if you have lower back issues. Have a blanket available; it's common to get cold (or hot!). Be sure you won’t be interrupted. Also, warn anyone else in your space that you will be letting out a loud scream at least once during the practice. You may want to cover your face with a pillow for this if you don’t want to disturb anyone. If you have pets that might be disturbed by loud sounds, make sure they are not in the room with you.

WHAT TO WEAR
Comfortable layers, yoga-type clothing, or anything loose fitting around your waist, socks if you tend to be cold.
WHAT TO EAT BEFORE
Nothing! BreathWork is best on an empty stomach. A light snack (such as fruit, nuts, avocado, cheese) not less than an hour before the session is OK.

AFTER THE SESSION
Self-care is important after a session. Rest, take an Epsom salt bath, drink plenty of water.
